The More Humble, The More Noble was originally titled Reiwa Flies, and it was created by the artist in commemoration of 2019, the first year of the Reiwa Era in Japan. The artist was born in 1937, during the period of Japanese rule of Taiwan, and moved with his Japanese teacher to Tokyo, where he resided for some time. In June 2019, the artist finally returned to Tokyo after 78 years and held an exhibition in Roppongi. To commemorate his return to the Tokyo of his childhood memories, he created an artwork that depicted a human figure: a wise and highly- respected man dressed in long robes, who is humble and reserved in attitude, marches onward and overcomes difficulties step by step while bearing the cross that is his mission, and soars high like an eagle.
