Master Chang Ching is considered a “national treasure” in Taiwan, with his works presenting a unique and intriguing style. While wood carving works in Taiwan mainly portray people figures, Master Chang’s works are often based on natural landscapes such as the “Taroko Gorge” series which vividly presents Taiwan’s world-class natural wonders via the medium of woodcarving. In this series, it is amazing to see how Master Chang not only replicated the tangible natural landscape, but also encapsulated the intangible, spiritual facets of Taroko Gorge with his unique techniques on precious wood materials from local Taiwan. The works in this series are truly an inspiration and enlightenment to all viewers.
